Hi! I'm a professional English teacher with an MA in TESOL. I specialize in English for academic and professional purposes, and I have tutored for test preparation, including the TOEFL and IELTS. I enjoy helping adult learners take their language to the next level.
I have a strong background in English and language teaching. I majored in English literature with a writing specialization. After college, I started teaching English, and I spent six months in Korea teaching in an elementary school. Then I earned an MA in TESOL. While getting my MA, I worked as a freelance tutor, and I was also hired to tutor international university students. I went through tutor training, and I specialized in helping students prepare for the iBT TOEFL exam. After graduating with my master’s, I began teaching at a community college and an intensive English program. I have been a classroom teacher for the past eight years, and I worked as a scorer for the iBT TOEFL speaking tasks. I have taught a wide range of classes, from beginning to advanced, and from reading, writing, and oral communication to IELTS test preparation.
What I enjoy about teaching is explaining things clearly to students so that they understand concepts easily. My favorite thing to teach is grammar. As a tutor, I like to be a guide and support for students to reach their goals and to feel more confident in their language use.
Besides teaching and tutoring English, I have a variety of interests (probably too many): traveling; exploring nature/hiking; learning about different cultures and languages; reading history, philosophy, and literature (especially British modern); art, design, and fashion; sewing, block-printing, and screen-printing; music; probably others I can't remember! I'm interested in almost anything, so let me know what you'd like to discuss :)
