Sobre mim

My name is Rachel Branch. I have been teaching English as a second/foreign language for about 8 years now. I have a variety of experience in many different settings. First of all, as far as education credentials, I have a Master's degree in Applied Linguistics (teaching language), and a Master's degree in Classics (Greek and Latin).

I had my first experience teaching English in China for a summer several years ago. I realized then that I loved teaching, and specifically I loved teaching language. I eventually moved to Mongolia and taught English for 2 years to Mongolian students at a university there. When I returned to the U.S., I taught English for 1 year at an English language school called ELS, where I taught classes of students from many different countries who were preparing to enter university. After teaching at ELS for a year, I went back to university to get my Master's degree in Applied Linguistics. During that time, I taught ESL for 2 years to international graduate students at the university. After receiving my second master's degree, I moved to Saudi Arabia and taught English there for a little over a year. I moved back to the U.S. in January of 2018, and I have been teaching ESL at a local language school and at Austin Community College ever since.

I love teaching English, and I love my students. My approach to teaching and learning language is highly interactive and communicative. I provide basic structure to my students, and believe that in order to learn to do something, one must do that thing repeatedly. For example, if one wants to learn to speak in a second language, then they must practice speaking in that language. It sounds obvious, but it's something that was long overlooked in traditional language teaching methodology using grammar and translation. My classes are interactive, creative, personal, and fun.
