I am a native of Tokyo and have over six years of experience teaching Japanese (both inside and outside Japan). I teach a variety of students at many different levels of language ability -- from beginners who have just started learning Japanese to intermediate students wanting to improve their conversational skills to advanced students studying to pass the JLPT. I am committed to providing fun, practical lessons with my students. I will look forward to meeting you in my lessons!
The following are some general guidelines how we might approach a lesson plan depending on your skill level.
1) Beginner: Focus on basic listening skills to help you get used to the sounds of the language while introducing basic grammar and building a foundational vocabulary.
2) Intermediate: Solidify elementary grammar and begin intermediate grammar while building basic conversational skills. Enrich vocabulary through various media, including TV dramas, magazines, YouTube videos and news sites.
3) Advanced: Progress toward more natural conversation, including, for example, by reading news articles and discussing current issues in Japan and the US.
If you have a specific textbook or materials you would like to use, I am happy to accommodate that in our lesson plan. I can provide handouts and other resources as needed.
Remember, I want our lessons to be as interesting and fun as they are instructive and therefore want to ensure that we are covering things that are relevant to you. Let me help guide your study and mastery of the language!
