My name is Gregory, but most people call me Greg. I am from New York. In 2015, I decided to pursue a TEFL certificate to teach English overseas. I completed my course in the beginning of 2016 and received a job offer from a small company in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. I taught English in Mexico for one year before returning to New York where I started working as an online teacher upon my return. I have been teaching English for an online English company ever since and I am now looking for more opportunities to teach english online.
I am a true believer that conversation is so important when learning a foreign language, especially regarding online education. I believe that when having conversation, you are practicing in the most efficient way possible. Pronunciation, listening, vocabulary, and grammar are all enforced when having a conversation with another person. In addition, I have noticed through my teaching experience that it is very common for students to have many more opportunities to practice grammar and listening than conversation. If you live in a country where English is not the first language, It is much easier to read a book or watch a movie than it is to have a conversation with a native speaker. With my current and former students, I have a lot of conversations about various topics. I like to constantly change the topic as an effective way for my students to learn new vocabulary and expressions that they might not know without having the privilege of talking to a native English speaker. With that said, I am always open to working with the students to answer any questions or possible requests that they may have. I do a lot of conversation with my current students, but I also have a lot of experience teaching grammar and other structured topics. Lastly, I believe that error correction is crucial for the potential growth of all students. If any of my students make a mistake, I want to correct them right away and make sure they know what their mistake was so they know how to use or say the word correctly going forward.
I look forward to continue to help students in the best way that I can, while also fulfilling my goal of having a very rewarding career in teaching!
