Hello! My name is Karlie, and I would love to work on English with you!
I am a conversation based teacher with an emphasis on the student's personal needs. I currently live in Idaho in the United States. I taught English in California part time for a year and a half to a class of native Chinese speakers and a class of Spanish speakers. I have also taught English to native Spanish speakers in Utah.
I am fluent in Spanish, and I have translated for doctors in Guatemala, and have also translated for community members in California, and in Utah for elementary schools and different community events. I have a Master's degree in Social Work, and have worked with many people from different backgrounds and places around the world. I have a passion for learning about different cultures and meeting new people.
My lessons will be based on practicing English through conversation. As a second language learner myself, I have found practicing conversations with a native speaker is the most helpful. I will work on a personal level with my students and cater to their needs. My typical first lesson will be finding out the students needs, then tailoring my future lessons to their needs. Reading comprehension and spellings can be tricky in English, so I will make that a focus of my teaching as well. I like to give a challenge during each lesson, so the student can learn/practice English outside of the paid time. That is where students can get the most benefit.
