Hello, my name is Joe. I'm originally from the U.S., but I have been living and working in Japan since 1987. The U.S. Navy brought me here, and the friends I met and my experiences here motivated me to stay. I also really enjoy the food.
I graduated from university with a degree in Asian Studies in 2000, and have been teaching English 2002. I have taught at various English conversation schools and community centers, and an international kindergarten. I also have a group of private students that have studied with me for a number of years. My students ages have ranged from 2 to 80, and their professions from hotel employees to medical doctors. I also have practical writing experience, and have assisted students with professional presentations and theses. I appeared weekly on a local radio station's English language program.
I have a casual teaching style and I encourage my students to use their English ability and learn from their mistakes. I am from the Midwestern U.S. and my accent is neutral. I can also communicate in Japanese. My interests include listening to music of many kinds, watching classic movies, and reading European and Asian history as well as novels by various authors.
I am looking forward to getting to know you and helping you along you English language journey.
