There are many great online English teachers, but not many of them have my experience in art and design. Knowing how to talk about art is a special skill, and I’m happy to share my knowledge with you so that you can express your ideas more effectively in English. I specialize in helping students interested in art and design. I know the vocabulary that art and design students need, and I know the kinds of language tasks that are expected of them, such as critique skills and being able to present their work with confidence. I help students to reach their goals quickly with patience, encouragement, and humor. I'm very organized, friendly, and I have a lot of teaching experience. I've worked with low-, intermediate-, and advanced-level students from many different language backgrounds. I've taught listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, as well as grammar and pronunciation. I know a lot of tools and strategies to help students succeed, and I have many years of experience with creating custom learning materials. If art or design is your passion, I can help you to speak, critique, and write about it in English. I work with clients at beginner, intermediate, and advanced English levels. Check out my courses and video to learn more about what I do!

I have 30 years of experience teaching English as a Second Language. I have taught all levels; from basic to advanced grammar and conversation, as well as business English, pronunciation, TOEFL and TOEIC prep. I have taught overseas in the Peace Corps and in the States at language schools, the World Bank, continuing education programs and refugee programs. I especially enjoy helping you on the more difficult aspects of English grammar to improve your ability to speak and write more precisely. And I love teaching pronunciation. I always design my lessons specifically for you, based on your skill level and your goals. I believe that language learning is a lifelong process of discovery. As you learn the language, you learn the culture, and vice versa. My role as a teacher is to provide the 'rules' and guidelines, give you opportunities to practice what you are learning, provide suggestions for improvement and continuous feedback on your progress. Here is what one of my students says about me: "Martha helped us to get a deeper understanding of English language, expand considerably our vocabulary, strengthen our conversation skills, and also develop a more complex and correct grammar. After living in many foreign countries where she had close contact with their diverse cultures and languages, she is able to adjust her mind and teaching to the needs of international learners."

*** CURRENTLY TAKING ON NEW STUDENTS*** My name is Chris, I’m from London, England, and I love teaching English as a foreign language! I'm a professional teacher who has been teaching since 2012 and I want to make your English learning experience unique and get you to fluency as quickly as possible. After years of experience, research and listening to student’s feedback, I believe that there are 5 principles that make you learn languages fast and effectively: 1. CUSTOMISATION - Learn what you want to learn and get personalised feedback from a professional at the end of a class and in a video within 24 hours of your class. 2. MAKING MISTAKES WITH DELAYED ERROR CORRECTION - Build up your confidence and fluency and find out what wasn’t correct later. Repeat your corrected sentences and vocabulary after class with an audio track. 3. MAXIMISING SPEAKING TIME - Maximise your precious class time by speaking as much as possible and get to fluency more quickly. 4. MOTIVATION - Keep your excitement for learning and avoid those moments when you feel bored of learning. 5. ACCELERATED LEARNING TECHNIQUES - Let me use my skills, activities and games to make your progress quickly in an area of English you are weak in. I’d love to see you in a class if you are considering taking classes with me, and I’d be very happy to help you on your journey into the world English. I’ve had some wonderful first classes and met so many great people throughout the world since I’ve started teaching online, and I’d be delighted if you were one of them. Most people understand what the trial lesson is, but it’s not always clear to everyone. Please just look at the points below to check you know what you are booking. Before your first session starts please consider the following: - Using a microphone with earphones or a headset will give much better sound quality to your lesson. Using computer speakers will probably result in echoing. - Google Chrome seems to be the best browser for Verbling Video. - Doing a test call on Skype with a friend or family member will give you a good idea of how strong your connection is, and if it is sufficient for a class on Verbling. If the speech isn't clear, try turning off the camera. If the speech still isn't clear, try to reconnect. If you are still having problems, upgrade your internet connection. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE TRAIL LESSON IS: - A 30 minutes introduction class. - An opportunity for you to see how the lessons work. - An opportunity for you to ask me any questions. - A way for us to create a plan for your learning goals. - A way to test your internet connection - Occasionally the connection can be problematic for some new online students. - A way to get to know each other. THE TRIAL LESSON IS NOT: - A cheap way for you to get your CV or written work corrected. - A lesson which is focussed on the areas in which you need to improve. - A cheap way to get a 30-minute conversation class with the active intention of not continuing. Of course, if you decide that I am not the right teacher after the class and you wish to find another teacher then that is perfectly fine. N.B. I exercise the right to accept or refuse to give lessons to certain individuals.

Which student are you? ~Some students have specific projects to work on with me, like practicing a presentation, studying for a test, preparing for an interview, reading and speaking about a medical or legal topic to enhance professional capability, applying for college (university), or help with college (university) essays, reading, and homework. ~Some students just need conversation experience with a native speaker full of new vocabulary, phrases, and grammar lessons, and casual, fun homework assignments. ~Some students prefer a structured series of grammar lessons with homework. Can't wait to meet you, Rebecca

Hello Friend! I hope you're having a great day! My name is Brent and I am from Santa Rosa, California. My hometown is in the California wine country, a beautiful place with outstanding weather. I have lived in Japan for thirteen years. I lived in Osaka for one year and then moved to Tokyo. I came to Japan because I am a poet and I love haiku. Japan is a wonderful country that has changed me in many positive ways. And the sushi...wow. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Literature/Poetry with a Minor in Education from the University of California, Santa Cruz. I am currently pursuing my Masters degree in Teaching English as a Second Language. My interests include haiku, hiking, comedy, studying Japanese, reading, food, traveling, baseball, and music. I am a very curious person and I enjoy learning about others' hobbies and interests. As a language learner myself, I understand the challenges involved with learning languages, which helps me address student concerns and needs in a constructive way. I teach all kinds of English, including general conversation, business English, TOEIC, TOEFL, Eiken, and kids lessons. I teach a wide range of ages, from two months old to eighty years old. Let me customize English lessons for you. We can use any books, newspapers, movies, songs, or other learning materials you like. I can also create original materials just for you! I love my students' English. There is no bad English. No one has bad English. If you can say "Hello.", that's great. If you can say "Nice to meet you.", that's great. The key is to own your English because it's yours! It's all about enjoying studying and getting better every day. One of my favorite haiku poets is Kobayashi Issa and this is one of his best poems. 蝸牛そろそろ登れ富士の山
Katatsumuri sorosoro nobore Fuji no yama Climb Mount Fuji, O snail, but slowly, slowly. This haiku has many meanings but one of my favorites is that Issa is telling even a snail, which is very slow, to slow down and enjoy climbing Fuji. It's the same with learning. Learning a language is like climbing Mt. Fuji. It's challenging and it takes time. Of course we want to improve every day but we have to make sure we look around and really enjoy the beautiful scenery, we should enjoy the new language we learn. Being a poet, I like to share my love of language with students so that they can experience more fully the joys of studying English. I am a people person and I use humor and a student-oriented approach to create a fun, comfortable learning environment. Your goals are my goals. I hope to meet you soon!
