My name is Christian. I am a 35-year-old German native living near Berlin, Germany. I thank you for your interest in my services as a teacher. I'd also like you to read my booking information for new students at the end of my description I am teaching German as a foreign language for over 3 years professionally and also have a background in teaching and design. I create my materials in InDesign and use my recording equipment to record listening materials in Audition for Memrise. I'm a fan of games (PC, Dungeons & Dragons, Switch), languages, history, science and art and all sorts of media, including books and movies. When I am not teaching I spend my time honing my skills as an artist, stream and continue to further educate myself about art, linguistics and other scientific fields. I also like computer games, internet-memes (ask me about cats) music, history and are generally interested in many topics. Curiosity hasn’t killed me yet. Why do I teach? As someone who used to stutter and dislike languages (especially grammar), getting into intense-self-studies to improve my English became my origin story. I worked as teacher for English in my hometown for 2 years afterwards, after acquiring a C2 certificate from Cambridge. This encouraged me to also intensely study and re-fresh German grammar, phonetics and teaching techniques (didactics) before starting to teach online full-time. Since then, I had the pleasure to teach teenagers, students, and business people alike. Through that and my pursuit to master art I don’t believe in inherited talent, but pursued interest. Everyone can, through dedication, practice and fun, learn to speak a foreign language. If you don’t get something, I will find another way to explain it. How I teach: While teaching I adapt the lesson to your strengths, weaknesses and abilities and structure it along your goals and needs. This can include exercises and materials for grammar, pronunciation, role-plays for daily conversation, job interviews, working environments and language exams (Goethe Institute, TestDaF, Telc). For that end I use my own materials and exercises. I also usually work alongside the European Framework for languages to teach you a wide range of topics and terms. How close we have to follow their suggested topics and abilities depends on what you like to achieve. I usually have a focus on the basic grammar first and then apply it with you while we speak but I am open to your approach and will give you advice in how to progress. While I don't have a degree in Germanistics I do have an extensive knowledge about grammar and linguistics and 3+ years experience in teaching German to foreigners. Even if you have absolute zero knowledge about grammar I can simplify my explanations for you, find comparisons to your native language and help you structuring your approach in learning German, if wanted. Booking information for new students: 1) I appreciate the vote in confidence, but please do not book more lessons before having a trial with me first. This allows you and me to take an informed decision about our possible cooperation first. I appreciate the thought though! 2) I am willing to reschedule or cancel a lesson for a student if the student feels ill, even if this happens 12 or less hours prior to the lesson. But I take the liberty to not accept them for any other reason in less than 24h prior. Please understand what drain of income those cancellations and reschedulings mean and that while Verbling gives students the ability to do so, I cannot afford it. Please respect the time you book from the teacher. 3) I do not teach kids under the age of 17 anymore.
Hello, thank you for viewing my profile. My name is Kay and I give German lessons online. I have experience teaching German and English to German natives and to foreigners. I also have experience writing and editing texts for publication, and I have corrected many texts written by non-native German speakers on a different language learning website. I can speak English fluently, so I am able to explain finer points of German in that language as well. I have worked with children deemed "difficult" by others, but I have learned that those labels do not matter and instead try to keep an open mind with every new student and try to help them in their unique situation. I am supportive and easy-going. I am flexible in the way I correct (few or many corrections) and the topics we talk about. I can and do explain grammar, but I'd prefer not to give a grammar lesson and monologue for one hour. I like when my students know what they want and what their goal is, because then I can help them in the best and most efficient way. I am interested in a variety of topics: I like sports, culture, food, entertainment, reading, and much more. I like travelling and getting to know new countries, new people, and new cultures. I am currently learning Spanish in order to travel to Spain for an extended period of time.
Language represents for me a very sincere approach to learning about the ways of life and thoughts inside a specific culture. My current endeavour of working in the Middle East as a German teacher is based on the idea of language and cultural exchange, where I get to teach kids and-grown ups of different ages various techniques of learning German while applying and thus improving my Arabic communication and intercultural skills at the same time. I am a certified examiner for the levels A1 through B2 and taught several classes for all levels. My approach is focused on learning through understanding by self discovery, whereas I design my sessions to your individual wishes and needs with a variety of topics, exercises and games to make the language learning experience an interesting one. Creating a relaxed atmosphere and the right linguistic frame for you to apply and train your language skills as well as providing you with the necessary input in order to improve them are key elements of my teaching style. I'm looking forward to meeting you. Andreas
