After 20 years...

みなさん、こんにちは。ゆきこです。
Hi everyone,
I have been getting students besides Verbling lately, and am enjoying teaching Nihongo!
Mostly I get students in their upper beginner level to N2 level and I’m very happy that they are really enthusiastic about learning and do not get sidetracked and that I can spend a quality learning session with each of them. Also most ask me to give them homework. I usually create homework assignments myself to give it a little spice. Anyways, please feel free to send me a message for a trial lesson if you’re interested!

わたくしは ずっと昔(むかし)、ピアノを 習って(ならってlearn) いました。
A long time ago, I was learning the piano.
母が 音楽大学(おんがくだいがくmusic college)を 卒業(そつぎょうgraduate)し、ピアノの先生を していたため、わたくしも 習わされました
My mother graduated from a renowned music collage and was teaching piano at home. Naturally, she wanted me to learn piano.
でも、へたっぴ だったので、高校(こうこうhigh school)の 時に やめてしまいました。
But, I knew I wasn’t good at it, and quit after high school.

以来(いらいever since)、心のどこかで、趣味で(しゅみでas a hobby) 弾きたい(ひきたいplay)、と思ったこともありましたが、ピアノはもちろんのこと、電子(でんしelectric)ピアノも、お金がかかるし、大荷物(おおにもつbig luggage-burden)なので、躊躇(ちゅうちょhesitate)していました。
Since then, somewhere in my mind, I’ve been thinking I wanted to play the piano just for fun, but I was hesitant to get a electric piano, much less a real piano because they’re not cheap and will take up space etc…
しかし!今住んでいるアパートで仲の良い(なかのよいgood friend)方(かたperson)が、CASIOのキーボードを持っていたのです!
However, about a month ago I found out that a good neighbor friend of mine had a CASIO electric keyboard!
彼女の亡くなった旦那様(だんなさまhonorific for husband)のものだそうで、彼女は弾いたことがなかったそうです。
It was her late husband’s and she had not played the piano.
ですが、最近練習(れんしゅうpractice)したくなって物置き(ものおきstorage)から出してきたそうです。
But she brought it out of her storage because she thought she may want to try it for fun.

彼女は現在(げんざいat present)、シアトルに遊びに行っていて、その間(そのあいだin the meantime)、私が猫の世話(せわtake care, care for)をすることになりました。
She has gone to Washington the other day for a month or more and in the meantime, I am her cat-sitter.
そこで、彼女の電子ピアノを借りて練習をすることにしました!
So I started to practice the piano with her e-keyboard!!
今、ショパン(Chopin)のエチュード(Etude)の中で一番短くて弾きやすい曲2曲を彼女が返ってくる前に、きちんと弾けるようになるために、毎日2時間ほど練習しています。
I made myself an assignment to be able to play 2 easiest Etudes by Chopin smoothly by the time she gets back, and practicing about 2 hours a day.
さすがに、速い指練習をすると指がつったりしますが、意外とまだ指が固まっていなかったので驚きました。
Just as expected, my hand cramps a little when play finger practice tunes fast, but surprisingly my fingers do move quite ok than expected.
電子ピアノを触るのは初めてで、ピアノとすこし違いますが、たぶん、20年前くらいのレベルまではなんとか戻れそうです。
It’s my first time to even touch an e-keyboard, and it’s a little different touch from the real piano, but I think I can get back my level to the point where I left off about 20years ago.
自分のペースでのんびり練習していますが、でも“これがひけるまでがんばろう”という目標を立てましたので、楽しいです。
I play on my pace, but since I made myself a goal to reach, I really enjoy the practice.

みなさんの日本語の練習も上達も、誰かに言われていやいややるのではないと思いますので、きっと楽しいでしょう?
I guess your Japanese practice or improvement is not something that you are made to do or achieve by someone else, so it’s fun, right? Same thing!

Let’s have fun and Enjoy Nihongo!

Hi Everyone! My name is YUKIKO. I am a native Japanese speaker and live in United States. I studied the effective method of teaching Japanese language to non-native speakers and got certified. My teaching style varies as each student's needs and level differ. I offer tailored lessons for each student and usually create my own learning materials according to each student's learning stage.🌈 The key to improve your skill is to voice out and repeat👄(^^♪ You will be talking(repeating) a lot during the lesson. DON'T BE SHY! If you are intermediate Japanese learner and like to focus on just conversation, let's talk! You're welcome to bring a material or topic you wish to study on or talk about.👌 For beginner students I don't always just push them into memorizing Hiragana/Katakana characters because it can be boring, and students can learn these in their own time. I try to make each lesson active and fun.😊 Please feel free to contact me for TRIAL lesson or for any question! Japanese i...
